Conowingo Bald Eagles Fishermans Wharf

Conowingo Bald Eagles FishermansWharf

Conowingo is known for the bald eagles many wild life photographers and bird watchers line up to take incredible pictures at fishermans park . Its one of the best locations to see bald eagles in action.  Watching these birds take off swooping down to get a fresh meal out of the water while other bald eagles chase and twine for a bird grab.

Conowingo has over 200 bird species however the bald eagle is the most popular along with the osprey . Lots of blue herons nest across the way on the island while the eagles land on the towers. Eventually being in the right place at the right time you may get a close photo oppertunity in the trees close to you .  You never know what your going to see at this location. From what I hear they are most active in the mornings and before sunset .  October Through Feburary is the peak time to see lots of Eagles most are active between 7 am -9 am and 4 to 5 pm.

On the other side of things you do have to watch your vehicle as the Volcher hovers waiting to pick away at your vehicle . Many vehicles became victims to the vulture by pulling on the windshield wipers , tires . So you may want to keep your vehicle close to chase them off if it does happen.

Conowingo Dam is also a large hydroeletric damn built in 1928 which produced 252 megawatts of power at the time . Also the second largest largest hydroelectric project in the united states other then Niagra falls. The dam today includes 11 turbines which can generate  up to 572 megawatts
(pollution free )elecectricity . Powering 165,000  homes which is the largest Dam in MD 94' feet tall and 4,648-feet wide.

This location fills up quick  parking becomes limited and sometimes a nightmare jammed at the gate waiting to park.  Bring a camra , lunch, fishing pole with fishing license , which ever you choose . Conowingo has become a Photographers paradise with lots of camras getting those awesome action shots.
